GALLERY TRIP

In the space of three days I have had the good fortune of visiting both the National Gallery of Victoria and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.

First off, the trip to the recently renovated NGV. The revised space is great, moving the viewer through the main gallery in a linear manner with the various exhibitions branching out from the path.

We had the good fortune of seeing 15 Minutes of Fame Pop Art Prints Exhibition. Stand outs being Allen
Jones. Leg Splash
and Andy Warhol’s Cow as pictured on the promotional material.

Today however we saw the Primavera and William Kentridge Exhibitions. William Kentridge would have to be the most amazing exhibition I have seen in ages and consisted of a number of stop animations created from charcoal images by drawing and rubbing back and re-drawing. The mood captured in these pieces moved from mourning and sorrow through to dreamy surrealism with a sense of humor thrown in.

Kentridge is a prolific artist. The shear volume of work in itself was amazing
and seen as a whole was truly awe inspiring. I cant recommend this exhibition
enough. Check it!
