Working around the Monopoly board

After finishing up at TMG at Christmas, I started the new year contracting at atticmedia in Angel, working on a few projects for BBC Digital curriculum mostly illustrative work for kids and e-learning type stuff. Nice work, folio pics to come. But this post is about The Angel Islington

When we first arrived in London, I had a job interview in Angel and my overall impression was that it was a bit ghetto and I didn’t really like it. Turns out though, that I couldn’t have been more wrong, the interview was just in a crappy part of town, and Angel is in fact a kick ass area!

I can catch the tube or the bus across town, both of which let me off at Angel station. From there it’s a short walk to work along the canal.

The canal is Beautiful. It’s a quiet little waterway complete with ducks, geese, cranes, fish, boats and bridges.

I see this bird sometimes on the way to work. He just sits on the top of thi boat and is quite happy for me to take his picture. I want to pat him.

It’s an awesome way to start the day. Even in these colder months it’s just really tranquil to walk along the embankment with the sound of the water.

Yep, pretty cold. but nice none the less

There’s loads of Narrow boats moored along the way and I totally want to live on one for a while. They couldn’t be too much smaller than our studio apartment and they have wooden stoves and I imagine, feel like living on a country river except that your in the heart of the city. I’m definitely going to look into the prospect of renting one of these bad boys.

Narrow Boat on the canal
Argh, a Pirates life on the high seas for me. Or maybe just a nice warm fire on a narrow boat might do it.

Aside from the Canal, Angel has a really good vibe. Lots of small stores, not your usual high street chains, It has an independent cinema, the kind that only shows one movie for the week. Loads of nice pubs and restaurants and a bit of an arts feel to it.

This coupled with my similar opinion of Shoreditch leads me to think that I might like to move to the Inner North. Maybe?
